Crepuscular Wallpaper for iPhone

Crepuscular is a changing wallpaper I just made for jailbroken iPhones using Winterboard soon to be available via Cydia. It is meant to go along with Clockwork the lockscreen shown below. In this set of wallpapers there is a little circular window that reveals the sun or the moon depending on the time of day. Huge props to the creator of the Illuminated theme for creating the html.

Also there is a green glass apparatus where the page dots sit, so they look like they are contained within. It will hold 7 dots well, 8 dots look okay, and if you've got 9 pages well, there's an app called Categories you should check out.

I leave the bottom right icon space empty so the sun / moon dial is not covered.

Thanks everyone for the great feedback on Clockwork, it's been downloaded 8,000 times in three days.

As always if you're feeling the love please drop a buck or two my way via PayPal and I can keep cranking out the themes. Request and suggestions welcome.

Huge thanks again to www.modmyi.com for the hosting!

Clockwork iPhone Animated Lockscreen & Sliders

Clockwork is my new custom animated lockscreen for the iPhone available through Cydia hopefully soon thanks to www.modmyi.com for hosting my themes.

This one features a beating heart powering some gears and a piston. I've also include three custom sliders for your pleasure as well.

I'm hoping to make a whole theme with this including either animated wallpaper or at least a very cool set of changing wallpapers, and possibly icons as well. This will depend on whether the new PayPal donation system affords me the time to work on it.

So if you dig it and you want more, drop me a buck or two to chris@bordenca.com via PayPal or use the "Donate" button on the right there and I'll get going! I'll even take suggestions.

And if you want your own unique custom theme, e-mail me and maybe we can work something out!

Enjoy everyone!

Don't Panic

::::edit:::: This theme has now been downloaded over 15,000 times and it's only been up for five days! Huge thanks to Kyle at www.modmyi.com for hosting it!

I just made my very first custom animated lockscreen for my iPhone based on the great little green guy that used to grace the covers of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

With the iPhone it's as if Douglas Adams himself worked hand in hand with Apple, his favorite tech brand, and designed the closest thing to the actual Guide.

I've used some variation of this image below as the wallpaper for all of my cell phones. I did not create the image, major props to whomever did. What I did do, is animate the arms and tongue so they wave about. Also there is a highlight that passes across the words Don't Panic. Words to live by my friends.

The animated lockscreen is available only for jailbroken iPhones via Cydia using Winterboard. If your phone is already jailbroken then you'll know what all that means. In the first hour or so it's already been downloaded almost 600 times! Now if only he were around to see it...

October Painting 1

Here is my current painting. It started out as something completely different and wound up transforming into this. The resemblance to fire is obvious but not really intentional. I woke up this morning thinking of the painting as I had left it last week, and the warm colors came to mind.

I nearly totally destroyed the original painting, which will be seen when the video is finished. It's like I lit the original on fire and it froze that way.

This was a pretty tough one to get through and sitting back now to look at it I'm very satisfied.

Black time lapse painting

Here is my latest painting created as a time lapse video.

Also dig the great song "Sad Robot" by Pornophonique who were cool enough to give me permission to use their song. They've got the whole album available for free download on their site www.pornophonique.de or search for it on jamendo. It would be very cool to drop them a donation of a couple of bucks just to say thanks if you dig the album enough to download it. See more at www.bordenca.com or www.youtube.com/chrisbordenca.

Perfect bookmark

For Cory Doctorow's new book "Little Brother" what could be a better
bookmark than a TSA notice of bag inspection? I bought the book to
read on a flight this weekend and when we landed my friend's guitar
case had been graced the notice.

East Side

Found this while waiting to ride the go carts at Adventure Landing in NC
on Friday night. That's badass.

Very old hand carved "Indian Head"

Noticed this yesterday on a backyard gate.

Happy McStar Wars

Sometime back in 1997 I had way too much time on my hands and made some stop motion videos using a old VHS camera, my roommate's computer, and a bunch of action figures and Happy Meal toys I had laying around. The first one was a very loose take off of Star Wars. There was no sound then, so I added some today. I lost some of my favorite clips that have been corrupted. Likely from being moved from hard drive to hard drive over the years. What you see below are all that is left of my 8 Russell Street animated short shorts.

Distant relatives?

I just painted this kendama for my friend Paul Miller over at www.varietyartsblog.com

. More on that later. Anyhow I'm about to mail it back to him along with an old webcam of mine when I noticed an odd resemblance between the two. One designed hundreds if not thousands of years ago, and the other within the last eight years.

Granted they both serve different purposes entirely, but I find it interesting to note that the older of the two has been in use since its inception and the newer is already nearly obsolete.

Variations

This is a response to Paul Miller's "That Guy". Which can be viewed below. The idea is that having a conversation over the paintings is more akin to the rambling thoughts someone might have when they are looking at this type of painting.

100 Faces of War Experience - Artist Matt Mitchell

Matt Mitchell is a painter I met when our wives were pregnant in baby having classes. We caught up with him and his wife last weekend for the first time in years. They are both incredible, accomplished artists. Matt's current project is called "100 Faces of War Experience"

Here is a quote from his statement:

100 Faces is a growing collection of portraits and statements by Americans with war experience in Iraq or Afghanistan (OIF, OEF). Not all the people pictured are military personnel, other people who have gone from America with a different mission or a different role than the military are also pictured.

The 100 Faces project has grown in many ways over the past couple years. As more portraits have been painted , more personal histories described, more exhibitions and events have been held the nature of this project has expanded. What began as a vision by one artist has branched out to become a project about history.

You can see the portraits at the website by following this link.

Current painting

This is what I'm working on at the moment.

All the Time Lapse Painting goodness.

For the past 7 months I've been recording my painting process using time lapse photography and posting the results all of the YouTubes... the work is for the most part abstract, although as of late I've been working in a more literal abstract style. Random doodles, shapes, creatures whatever you want to see, grow from a point on the canvas. For now there is no theme behind anyone painting. They go where ever my mind goes. There are definite "things" to be found among the random objects/organisms, like tentacles and pipes, heart like shapes that morph into planetiod shapes, things like that. So here's to the first blog post and the first batch of videos.
